Norton 2010 Beta Review

Who don't want to try the best of the products for the first time before others?

For the last couple of days i have been trying Norton Antivirus 2010 in its pre-release beta form. This is my opinion about that.

THE GOODS
As usual the interface is really beautiful. It has more black in it and that goes wonderfully with Windows 7. I can easily say this is the most beautiful antivirus product around.
All the usual goodies that comes along with Standard Norton Antivirus is Present.
Pulse updates can be really good but they can use some amount of bandwidth. So if you are in a limited bandwidth connection turn it off.
Another Important feature i noted is the ability to Control the annoying "At Risk" warning. Now you can exclude certain features from the "At Risk " category. Suppose you don't want the browser protection and u have turned it off. Norton no longer shows your computer to be always "At Risk" if u choose to ignore browser protection.
It doesn't slow down the computer a lot but its presence can be felt.

THE BADS
It is plagued by frequent crashes. Since it is in beta form that can be excused.
Norton was a antivirus with minimum number of false positives. But with this version the amount of false positives have increased drastically.
Another annoying thing is its so called browser Protection. If you have set your home page to be about:blank then it shows it as a severe vulnerability and closes the browser itself.
As usual uninstalling Norton products is a pain in the ass because of the partially removed registry entries and drivers. u should use the norton remover provided by the company for the purpose.

FINAL WORD
If you want your computer to be an eye candy then surely this is the product to go with.
Others take a look at the free alternatives.
If you want to go for paid protection first check out the ESET NOD32. Seems to be better alternative. But in the end it is up to your taste.
